Faint and Weary

Sinking feelings can leave us tired and weary. We can faint and be rendered helpless and weak – unable to find our feet, and confidence in the foundation of what we believe life to be about escapes us. Slowly, our focus erodes and the growing negative thoughts undermine the foundation of what we say we trust in.

When our adverse mindset is left unchallenged we can end up emotionally and spiritually exhausted. Slowly we lose courage and become a feeble, fragile version of who we formerly were. Without deliberate and intentional action our dejected and cast down spirit can and will end up in the foundationless pit of depression. Unchecked, ongoing and continual discouraging thoughts will end in despair. Can you like Jeremiah say, ‘my joy is gone; grief is upon me, my heart is sick within me?’ (Jeremiah 8:18)

Has this become your reality?

It is not a good place to be! It is time to stop. Stop it, now! It is time for a critical examination of the true state of your heart. There is a reason we are told to guard, and keep our hearts focused on the Lord. The only way this can be accomplished is to discipline our time. Disciplines are where discipleship takes place. Disciplines establish a pattern of life, a pattern of thoughts, and a pattern of focus. This is where what we believe is strengthened and where our foundation is fortified.

What is your plan to fortify your faith? Where will you find the instruction needed to encourage your faint heart to faithful steadfast endurance?

  • Be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh. Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life (Proverbs 4:20-23).

  • May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light (Colossians 1:11-12).

  • Give me understanding, that I may keep your law and observe it with my whole heart. Lead me in the path of your commandments, for I delight in it. Incline my heart to your testimonies (Psalms 119:34-36).

  • The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength (Isaiah 40:28-29).

  • "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong (2 Corinthians 12:9-10).

  • Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand (Isaiah 41:10).

  • I can do all things through him who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13).
