Fun With Food!

Have you ever been told to stop playing with your food, and eat it? Playing with it is a no no, and can be considered as bad manners! It is when it’s on a plate, and you play with it rather than eating it. I remember hearing this as a child more than once. After a season, I outgrew the playing with food stage conforming to the social requirement of good manners. We all get to this stage, or we should.

Then I learned it’s okay to play with food when it’s called food art. The decorating of cakes, and how food was plated for presentation as well as food used as décor was more than a game, it was an art. Carving food into creative birds, animals, or flowers is considered a skill and a talent. Playing with food now takes on a whole new meaning. It can become a career – not only in food preparation, but in food growth too.

Imagine growing a cucumber or watermelon heart. What about a square? Or a tomato in the shape of a cartoon character. The possibilities are endless. Fruits and vegetables can be molded into almost any shape. How is it done? Are you curious? You should be! Knowing how to do this would make a fun project for a group of kids, or your own children. It would be fascinating to see how a fruit grows into the mold it is placed in. Think of the theological analogies you could make at the same time. Society molds us, the world wants us to conform, but the Lord can change and shape us.

Or, if you don’t have children this is just a fun video to watch –

– amazing isn’t it? Who would ever have thought playing with food could be a whole lot of fun?

  • Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect (Romans 12:2).

  • Put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator (Colossians 3:10).
