Consider Your Steps

Walking wisely, choosing our steps and path will prevent many a season of heartache and struggle. It is never good to catch our foot, stumble and fall simply because we did not take the time to think through our Christian walk and what we are called to. To prevent this, God has given us principles to live by. Psalm One teaches us the outcome of our choices. They will impact our every step, and the moments in our days when we make the choices that will impact anything and everything we do and say. Choices determine how we act and interact with others, and with whom. We are responsible and accountable for the choices we make.

We choose, we do the picking of our priorities.

Psalm One tells it as it is. We don’t need to, nor should we, listen to the counsel – plans, advice, lies, deceit, accusations, gossip and slander others may be prone to discuss with us, or with others. We can walk away, and we must. Hearing opens us up to temptation. Hearing and listening cultivates what we think about, how we change, grow and who we become. It shapes us.

Who do you want to become – pleasing to peers, or pleasing to the Lord?

We do not need to be caught up in listening to everyone, hanging out with them, or building relationships with them. Bad counselors are not the kind of friends the Lord would want us to have. Who are you listening to, and who and what do you want to become?

After all, God has told us in His Word, we are not to listen to the World, its wisdom and live according to its ways.

When we delight in Him, we will follow the commandments and principles of Scripture. We will listen to conversations through an established mindset anchored in Biblical teachings. And, we will plan our way in accordance to what we learn in Scripture.

How are you planning your walk, your words, and your way? Is it after Him? Or is it after the ways of the world? Who do you seek to please? Friends, family, or The One in whom you have placed your hope, The One in whom you trust to build your faith?

  • Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; for the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish (Psalm 1:1-6).
