As those who have been given dominion over the earth it is often cute to see how some care for orphaned animals – and we should care for weak and injured creatures when we can. This -

- short National Geographic clip is just too cute. Watch it to see a baby squirrel snuggle up to its adopted caregiver – there is a definite connection and acceptance of the person by the squirrel.

Now, I know, as you view this you may wonder about the theological merit of someone grieving over the possible loss of a baby squirrel in the same way as they grieved over the loss of their mother. I can’t and don’t understand that, however, I know many do – they would think me pretty hard hearted for not grieving over the loss of an animal in the same way as I would for a human. However, this article’s intent is the cuteness of the critter as it responds to the care given it. It fascinated me how it ‘barked’ at the veterinarian’s aid when he reached out to touch it, and how differently the baby squirrel responded to the one whose touch, voice, smell and voice it knew.

I don’t think we are any different in how we respond when spoken to kindly and caringly by those whom we trust, and hold our affection.

  • God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth (Genesis 1:26).

  • And God said to them, Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth (Genesis 1:28).
