Bubblegum, Should We!

Blowing bubbles has always been an idiosyncrasy of mine. I love a huge ball of bubble gum being gently chewed and then pushed to the tip of my tongue. Forming the gum between my teeth and tongue and stretching for the perfect moment to start blowing is simply good fun! Out comes the bubble – and it can get pretty big, or I can choose to pop it with my lips. Then, it’s back into my mouth for the process to begin again.
Bubbles. Oh, how I like to blow them!! I know!! It’s disgusting. I know! Many would be surprised at this behind doors activity of mine. I do not do it often, but I am doing it right now! As I am chewing away and forming the gum at the tip of my tongue I am thinking about a very short mini documentary on how gum is made! What I saw and learned made we question – should I give it up? Many, would be quick to affirm – yes!!
I am horrified to learn gum is made from plastics and rubbers, it was not always made from these synthetic materials – it used to be made from tree resins. I’ll really have to think about this some more – a whole lot more. Should I be chomping away and blowing bubbles from something made from plastic and rubber? What does this do to my body? Watch it with me, and see what you think - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fd5N9JUffxM&t=25s
Knowing this, would you give a kid a piece of gum so they can learn of your childhood fun thing to do – blow bubbles. I’d have to say no. And, I will have to think of another idiosyncrasy to become mine. My bubble-blowing days are done!
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31).
I know and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself, but it is unclean for anyone who thinks it unclean. For if your brother is grieved by what you eat, you are no longer walking in love. By what you eat, do not destroy the one for whom Christ died. So do not let what you regard as good be spoken of as evil. For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:14-17).
