Indoor Walking

An important part of my life is exercise. However, I do not like going to the gym. I do like walking – hour upon hour of arm swinging, fast, slow and intermediate exercise.
When I first arrived in Windhoek, Namibia, I was cautioned to take care when walking. I did. I seldom walked for the joy and fun of it for long stretches of time. And, I gained weight. I hated that!
To prevent more weight gain, I became defiant and started walking for long stretches of time. Over the past year repeated warnings to be cautious have impacted my walking. A few neighborhood muggings have brought to my attention that I need to be wise. Defiance can only lead to potential danger. With unemployment figures growing, it is not wise to walk alone – it is not safe.
And so, I decided to search out indoor walking routines that can bring with it the exercise I need. This link is a good pace for me …

… but, if you’re not a conditioned walker and this is too fast for you, simply slow your pace. Soon you will catch up and be able to keep in sync with the instructors pace. Encourage a friend or family member to start this indoor walking program with you. Exercising is essential – it helps us with stress, and keeps our bodies healthy and in shape.
Try it. Start something new in your home, and community. Better yet, start an exercise group at your local church if you, like me, live in an area where crime is high. I’m sure many others in your community would willingly join you!
