I like to see bees visiting flowers and in the process pollinating them. It encourages thoughts of spring and fun days out hiking with friends. Furthermore, it makes me think of the awesome beauty which surrounds me – left for all to enjoy! However, although we observe the beauty in all things created, we know the same occasion can turn hazardous when bees are aggressive. It is no fun to be stung! It is then that we do not like them. Still, the sight and sound of bees buzzing around a plant, visiting blossoms, and then moving on is fascinating to watch.

is fascinating. And, of course, honey – most of us like the sweetness it brings to our palate.

As fascinated as we are with nature, bees, honeycombs and honey we should be reminded of the Lord when we consider them. As sweet as honey is – the Word of God, its rules, ordinances and principles are sweeter and more pleasant to life than what a bee can produce. Our fascination with nature should point us to God – an amazing and awesome creator. What intricate and intelligence we find in the design of a honeycomb.

  • The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward (Psalm 19:9-11).
