If only I knew then what I know now, how different life would be, is often an expression used by many. Have you used it? I have! I’ve used it more often than I would care to admit. This is why I love to counsel, and why I love Biblical counseling. I can share the wisdom given me from the Word of God, with younger women, so that they can walk through life more wisely.

However, as much as this may be my conviction it has no value to hearers if they do not listen and apply the counsel given them. Wisdom does not only come to older persons through experience, young people too can learn to live wisely through reading, and prayerfully applying what they learn in the Word of God to life. Age does not necessarily make one more wise than younger persons. Younger people can have just as much wisdom if they spend time in Scripture. I hope you do! I appeal to you to do so! Please!

You may wonder why so strong an appeal – I want God’s best for you! I would like to see you respond well, and excel in all life’s providences. You can! You can, in the hard and difficult one’s as well as the sweet and blessed one’s.

How can this be true, you may ask. The Word of God holds the answers.

  • Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity (1 Timothy 4:12).

  • The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever (Psalm 111:10).

  • To know wisdom and instruction, to understand words of insight, to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity; to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth—Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance, to understand a proverb and a saying, the words of the wise and their riddles. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction (Proverbs 1:2-7).

  • If you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints. Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; for wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; discretion will watch over you, understanding will guard you (Proverbs 2:1-11).

  • The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight (Proverbs 4:7).

  • I have taught you the way of wisdom; I have led you in the paths of uprightness (Proverbs 4:11.

Wisdom is available – freely given, in the Word of God. Please, use it. Honor it. Live it!
