P Stands For Perfect

Wouldn’t it be good if we were perfect? We never did anything wrong. Our every thought was pure, kind, sweet and gracious. Furthermore, we could add to this a demand that nothing bad should ever happen to us, nor to those we love and care for. Anything and everything that happened to us or our loved ones would need to be pre-approved – by us! What standard would we use? Would we establish our own, or would we develop a regulatory set of principles to live by?

If this was our reality, would we be able to maintain a humble spirit? Or would we grow in pride demanding it’s our way or no way!

Can you imagine that? Would you really like it? I don’t think I would. The stress and pressure of carrying the load would cause my legs to wobble – and I’d fall. And, that would be a good thing. Wouldn’t it? I hope you can say the same thing too.

Yet, this is how many people live – it’s their way or no way. With some it could be through listening and submitting to erroneous theology – cultivated through false teaching. Or, it could be plain old pride – the arrogance of believing in our own superiority of thought and lifestyle, and justifying self-importance – it most certainly is all about us. While with others it is their culture and tradition – they believe it supersedes the call to live Biblically, or they simply do not know what Scripture says to want to live differently. Furthermore, they may never have been taught that the Word of God is to be applied to life – it should cause us to live differently. This means that we are to examine our belief system, what we value.

What should we look to when we set a standard for living? Do we look at our culture and our traditions in light of the Word of God?

If our way of life does not measure up – we are to seek the Lord in His Word, and in prayer. We are to ask Him to change our way of thinking – and change the way we live.

Knowing of my imperfections – and I have many of them, causes me to look to the Lord. It gives me gratitude for what He has accomplished for me. I know that when God looks down at me, He sees me through His son. Wow!! What a gift. Christ is the Perfect One through Him I can slowly be changed. Changed and sanctified. Is this true for you too?

  • Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:12-14).

  • Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever (1 John 2:15-17).
