Our last observation and discussion regarding Makino comments on her rushing away from the storming of the students at Eitoku to attack and bully a fellow student. Makino responds by running away – she rushes out a door into a stairwell to vent her frustration and anger. She shouts out her complaint, bold in her choice of words. We know she is angry and she is right to be so. However, her shouting out is emotional and she believes she is alone – this is a private moment for her. We think it is too until the camera draws back and we see someone resting on the stairs hidden from her. She is not alone! Would Makino have been so bold with her words, and the emotions they reveal about her had she known someone was listening and observing her.
We know she would not have.
This is a moment where she believes she can say what she wants, how she wants, and as loud and bold as she thinks it should be. As I watched this scene I compared it to my own life, we think our private words and actions carry no weight. They are hidden, and so we think, speak and do things we believe hold no account.
But Someone is watching, seeing and hearing every word we speak, and knows every thought we have! We can and never will be alone!
This scene holds great value for family discussions to teach the reality that there is never a private moment where we can do what we want and no one will ever know. Where we can practice a sinful thought and act on it and God will never know. We live before a permanent audience of One!
Is this how you live your life? Why or why not? How would you use this scene in your family discussions to talk about God, His omnipresence, omniscience, and omnipotence?
I will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5).
Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, … I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you (Genesis 28:15).
Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you." It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed" (Deuteronomy 31:6 & 8).
Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you. Be strong and courageous (Joshua 1:5-6)
