Confident Steps

The lyrics of an old hymn reminds us of God’s faithfulness to us when our paths seem to traverse high and dangerous mountain tops.
All the way my Savior leads me, What have I to ask beside? Can I doubt His tender mercy, Who through life has been my Guide? Heav’nly peace, divinest comfort, Here by faith in Him to dwell! For I know, whate’er befall me, Jesus doeth all things well; For I know, whate’er befall me, Jesus doeth all things well.
How is it that the writer of this hymn can confidently attest that whatever befalls them they know the Lord does everything well? I believe the answer lies in their having learned the Lord has proved Himself faithful first through His Word, and secondly through their personal experience. How can one doubt the faithfulness of God in preserving Joseph (Genesis 37 – 50). And, many a saint can testify how the Lord strengthened them to endure the difficulties He called them to walk through (Job). They may have struggled, lamented and warred – but they endured. They learned to stand.
What about you? Can you attest to the Lord’s leading and guiding you in the paths of righteousness where it is only through His strengthening you that you were able to endure and remain steadfast.
His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence (2 Peter 1:3).
Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain (1 Corinthians 15:57-58).
Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God (2 Corinthians 7:1).
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand … take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth (Ephesians 6:11-14).
All the way my Savior leads me, Cheers each winding path I tread, Gives me grace for every trial, Feeds me with the living Bread. Though my weary steps may falter And my soul athirst may be, Gushing from the Rock before me, Lo! A spring of joy I see; Gushing from the Rock before me, Lo! A spring of joy I see.
All the way my Savior leads me, Oh, the fullness of His love! Perfect rest to me is promised In my Father’s house above. When my spirit, clothed immortal, Wings its flight to realms of day This my song through endless ages: Jesus led me all the way; This my song through endless ages: Jesus led me all the way.
What is the hymn calling you to focus on to glorify the Lord in your life?
