What does your Christian walk look like? What does it mean to ‘walk’ the Christian walk? How are we to do that? The answer will depend on who and what you know Christ to be. Who is He?
In this discussion we are focusing on the first lessons you learned from Scripture about Him, not what your imagination would determine Him to be, or who incorrect teaching would suggest He is. There is a difference.
To walk in a manner worthy of the Lord you need to know Him! What are the first lessons you learned about Christ; the ones that instruct you in how to walk and live the Christian life? Always come back to the Gospel – learn it and know it, so that you can know the reason for why you are called to walk in obedience and faithfulness.
Let us walk in the light of the LORD (Isaiah 2:5).
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me (Galatians 2:20).
As you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving (Colossians 2:6-7).
Walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7).
Whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him (Colossians 3:17).
Walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God (Ephesians 5:2).
Let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel (Philippians 1:27).
Whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things, fix your minds on them (Philippians 4:8).
Whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked (1 John 2:6).
So, what about your walk? Are you growing, are you changing? Are you part of a community that is weak and church services are more focused on social agendas rather than preaching and teaching the Word of God? What should you and can you do about it? How can you grow in a weak church community? Start a women’s fellowship group, or if married start a Bible study. Contact a Bible teaching church you know of and ask what materials you can use to encourage others. Work through a book together. Start talking about the Lord with others as you learn more and more about Him. Be excited about the Word of God. Speak well of it. Speak well of the Lord. Praise Him.
