Singing a New Song

We all need reminding of Biblical truths to find encouragement in our difficult moments. Practical steps are essential. At times we will try one approach, fail, and then another.
Failure is not destruction, it is directing.
We are to keep trying, holding on to the application of truth we have found to be of encouragement. When these steps become our new normal manner of response – our new habit – we are then equipped to encourage others who are struggling.
Finding victory – even if it is a moment-by-moment, day by day victory requires us to share our Biblical strategies with others. We are to encourage one another, building each other up.
Often when trials are ongoing and circumstances are bleak, hope seems to dwindle. It is in these moments that we need to humbly ask others for prayer, and do those things we have found to assist us in our moments of trial. What strategies do you have?
My most successful strategy is listening to hymns and songs with solid doctrine in the lyrics. Music lifts my soul, and sound lyrics undergird the foundation of my faith reminding me of the facts of my circumstances. Not my feelings, but the facts.
The Lord gifted us with song, Psalms are filled with encouragements on what we need to do in difficult moments. They speak of the melody of the heart, when mind and heart are in agreement, accepting, submitting and honoring of the Lord in His providences.
What am I to do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray with my mind also; I will sing praise with my spirit, but I will sing with my mind also (1 Corinthians 14:15).
He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD (Psalms 40:3).
The LORD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him (Exodus 15:2).
The LORD is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him (Psalm 28:7).
Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing (1 Thessalonians 5:11).
I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers (Luke 22:32).
Address one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart (Ephesians 5:19).
What about you, what music do you listen to during the day? Do you choose music where the lyrics are Biblically solid and will feed your seeking and struggling soul? Music that will remind you Jesus is sovereign and in control? Music that will build you up and strengthen you.
In a recent article, we posted a Jerry Bridges quote ‘Trust is not a passive state of mind. It is a vigorous act of the soul by which we choose to lay hold on the promises of God and cling to them despite the adversity that at times seeks to overwhelm us.’ Listen to the lyrics of Lauren Daigle’s Trust in You
What do the lyrics say about trusting God? Do you?
