Blue Waxbills

A tiny little Blue Waxbill bird controls the start of my day; they are ever so cute. To attract wild birds to the garden we feed them daily. Doves join in on the feeding and are huge in comparison to the waxbills, as well as being aggressive feeders.
Quite a while ago, I noticed when I placed seed out before it was fully light the waxbills would descend and start feeding. The doves arrived when the sun was up, and the waxbills would then leave – the competition drove them away!
To encourage the waxbills I make sure I’m up and about and the seed scattered before full daylight. We started with two waxbills and now we have about ten that come for feeding. Still, they fly off when the doves arrive. Maybe in time the number will grow … I hope it will. It would be so much fun if a little flock of waxbills made this garden their home!
