Rooster

I just had a phone-call from a woman who needed counsel for managing her disabled child. She had text messaged me, and then called. I think she asked if there was anyone who spoke her native language so that she could be understood. Although her English was fairly good, I could barely understand her, her words were silent in comparison with the shrill cries of a rooster. It sounded like the rooster had the phone and she was trying to be heard above the crowing. Who do I find to interpret - a native language speaker, a rooster, a hen? Who?

A good rule for telephone etiquette, don’t give your phone to your rooster! Should you do so, you will never be understood!
